about
Romantic bouncy song with a story about being on the road in a gypsy lifestyle, travelling around the West Country of England, I wrote the song in Dover when I was at school, and finally recorded a version here. Song was written after reading "Return of The Native" by Thomas Hardy. Nice clarinet solo, and frills throughout. Piano and guitar lead the song with a bluesy bassline.
lyrics
Romany Days, Love in the hay
Having fun in the sun
Turnpike lanes, the children play games
The Reddleman is the one
Long blond hair, opal blue eyes
Stars at night in the sky
I always say now you are mine
I’ll love you ‘till the end of time
Romany days, out on the road
Romany days, our love is so old
Caravans and horses hoofs
Gypsy love in the flames,
And when there is love, the white tailed dove
Returns just the same
A glass of good beer, we’ll shout and we’ll cheer
And dance the night away
Lilly and I, the love that won’t die
Live for Romany days
Back on the road, to places we’d go,
That opened up our eyes
Mountain streams, and snowy peaks
Reaching out of the skies,
The valleys and hills, the fields and the trees,
Come from travelling ways
Lilly and I, the love that won’t die
Live for Romany days
